Profile

General Information

Michaela has been working closely with Stephen Ward advising on the regulatory compliance aspects of the Pupillage Academy. Along with a group of Clerksroom volunteers, she will continue to support the development of the Pupillage Academy.

She undertakes the role of Clerksroom Regulatory Compliance Officer and provides assistance to Clerksroom pupils and pupil supervisors in the capacity of Pupillage Co-ordinator; with the support of her team at Beyond Compliance Limited. Michaela is a solicitor specialising in regulatory compliance for barristers and solicitors. She has a strong knowledge of the BSB regulatory regime and advocates that compliance leads to competence which leads to clients.

She worked in practice for 13 years as a fee earner, graduate trainer and quality and audit manager. This mix of experience, coupled with over 10 years running a compliance business, has given her excellent problem solving and analytical skills, equipping her with a unique ability to conduct risk and compliance drafting, reviews, auditing and coaching to ensure regulatory compliance as well as business process improvement.

Having grown up in a financially poor but values rich household and having undertaken her law degree and Legal Practice Course on a part-time basis, whilst working full-time, as a (slightly!) mature student, Michaela is a strong advocate for social mobility.

Personal:

Due to a disability, Michaela now enjoys more sedate and cerebral pursuits such as Pilates, reading, writing, inspiring conversations and good music.  She has been lucky enough though to have had some excellent adventures including paragliding in many different countries including New Zealand and South Africa, canyoning, skiing and climbing in France, kayaking in the Tasman Sea, a helicopter ride to a glacier; and of course, the obligatory bungee jump!
