Profile
A highly rated direct access barrister, Michael Shaw has an excellent track record and a down-to-earth approach that puts his clients at ease.
Transferring to the bar in 2017, Michael joined Clerksroom in 2018 having spent 7 years as a solicitor (the last year as a solicitor-advocate). He was Head of Clinical Negligence and a Director at Carter Moore Solicitors, with specific responsibility for client acquisition.
Michael enjoys a general civil practice, with particular emphasis on clinical negligence, personal injury and media law (music). During his music career, Michael established many useful media industry contacts and has a relatively new but growing practice in this area. He is noted for his ability to combine his legal knowledge with his musical experience to put clients at their ease and explain the legal situation in terms that a non-lawyer can easily understand.
Able to advise on paper or in conference, Michael can attend interlocutory hearings, case management hearings, fast track trials and Coroner’s inquests. He can assist in the drafting of particulars of claim, applications, skeleton arguments, case summaries, draft directions, costs budgets, multi-track Precedent H forms and budget discussion documents. He can offer advice on quantum, liability, causation, merits of cases and strategy.
Based in Manchester, Michael is happy to travel nationwide.

Fees and Feedback
FEES:
Details regarding our approach to fees can be found at the following link: http://www.clerksroom.com/content-html?cid=514
SERVICES:
Please see “profile” tab for a description of the legal services provided by this barrister.
We aim to complete and return all paperwork within 14 days (2 weeks) of receipt if no specific deadline is provided. We can work to much faster timescales if requested or we can agree a specific target date for each individual circumstance. We will always advise at the outset if counsel is unable to meet any deadline.
Each barrister has a standard hourly rate for their work. The individual hourly rate can be agreed when instructions are acknowledged if preferred. We welcome early discussion as to the suitability of a specific barrister for a specific case. The right barrister will have the relevant expertise to deal with the case but will not be too junior, or too senior depending on the complexities.
We aim to allocate all cases to the correct level of experience & seniority which we believe will prove most to be the most cost-effective solution for our clients.
If, due to urgency, we allocate paperwork to a more senior member of Clerksroom, we will charge the appropriate hourly rate for the work, not for the barrister. We welcome early discussion to ensure the correct fee is applied to the case at the outset.
REDRESS:
All our barristers are regulated by the Bar Standards Board (BSB) and hold a current practising certificate, details can be found at the following link Barristers’ Register

Testimonials
SC Direct Access ClientHi Michael, Thank you so much for all of your help and support. I immediately felt at ease when we met at court. What a relief that not only did you get the CCJ set aside and the debt written off but you managed to get the other side to pay me costs! What an amazing result! I would recommend you in a heartbeat. Again I cannot thank you enough.
Ms S A Lay ClientMichael Shaw dealt with our case in the most professional manner. He was caring and courteous towards the Defendant who was a victim of domestic violence whilst displaying the utmost professionalism and giving her the advice and confidence to give evidence in the best way possible. His cross-examination technique, expertise and his confidence is what won the case in the end. Highly recommended! Thanks again Michael. Great result.
Sobia Zahoor Themis LawyersI instructed Mike on a complicated public liability matter. I was impressed by his down to earth nature and the effortless way he was able put my client at her ease in conference. At trial his cross examination of the Defendant’s main expert witness was, by all accounts exceptional, and won the day for our case. The judge singled out their witness for specific criticism as a result of the flaws in his evidence; flaws which I’m sure would not have come out but for Mike’s advocacy skills I would have no hesitation in recommending him to other instructing solicitors and I will be instructing him regularly in the future.
