General Information

Benefitting as I do from having spent my entire 45 + year career in the construction industry, working as a hands-on operational practitioner with a select number of large corporate and independent medium sized construction, development and engineering businesses including my own, I am well versed in the ways of the industry and have a comprehensive understanding of the difficulties it can present.

Originally commercially trained but having also gained an extensive experience across most disciplines within the industry, including working on site, at board level and at every level in between, I have worked on individual projects ranging in value from £50k to £230m and programmes exceeding £400m in new-build, refurbishment, restoration and fitting-out projects, across health, education, office, retail, engineering, leisure and all forms of residential sectors.

I currently work full-time as a consultant providing guidance and advice to employers, consultants, contractors and the supply-chain, helping them adopt good practice, the avoidance of disputes and the resolution of them, including when appointed as a party representative, mediator, adjudicator or expert witness.

I qualified as a mediator in 2014 and I began receiving appointments shortly afterwards. I am an accredited mediator by both RICS and CEDR and am registered and receive appointments from RICS, CIC and others.

I am at home conducting mediations either in person or virtually via Microsoft Teams.

Recent mediations have included:

• Between residential building employer and its contractor as to the value of the works
• Between business partners as to the value of shareholding between them
• Between a residential housing group and its contractor in connection with the scope, quality of workmanship and final account value of the works.

Areas of expertise:

• Construction
• Engineering
• Defects and workmanship
• Payment and account settlement
• Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act
• Consultant appointments
• Commercial contracts
• Commercial property

Mediation style and approach:

Having been involved in mediation as a party as well as a party representative and appointed mediator, I understand the stress that conflict and disputes bring to businesses and the lives and families of those involved. I am alive to the risks should settlement not be achieved and I adapt my approach to the needs of the day whilst always believing that the key to all successful mediations is preparation and a focus on the issues.

Why choose me as your Mediator?

Because I benefit from a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the industry and its workings, a commercial training, first-hand experience of the implications that disputes have upon businesses and the individuals involved with them, and the release that resolution often brings. I work hard at helping the parties reach a solution between them and exhausting all available avenues to do so.
