Stephen Harvey KC General Information Stephen commenced his legal practice following careers in mechanical engineering, business and local government. His first 11 years at the bar involved a mixed bag of common law cases. It developed into a heavyweight criminal practice and, in 1990, he was invited to join the Attorney-General’s Chambers, where he spent the following 16 years prosecuting and defending in serious criminal cases of all types. Over the last 15 years, Stephen has developed a very successful direct professional access practice and has expanded particularly into regulatory, compliance and professional disciplinary fields, utilising his honed tactical and forensic skills culitvated before juries. He has advised and represented professionals from a variety of disciplines when regulatory problems have arisen, and has particular experience before sporting tribunals where he has sat as the Appeal Chair of an international sporting body, and has carried out investigations in relation to sporting safeguarding issues. He has spoken on a variety of legal topics, and has particular expertise in the cross-examination of expert witnesses. Stephen is one of the few members of the bar authorised to conduct litigation, thereby avoiding the need in some cases for the client to also instruct a solicior . Stephen receives instructions from throughout the UK and abroad. Stephen has been instructed to investigate an Olympic athlete’s conduct following a series of complaints. He has recently advised an international club on match-fixing issues and investigations by the ICC. He has also advised in relation to matters before the British Horseracing Authority.
