General Information

Maureen joins Clerksroom on her return to the profession after a career break. She brings a wealth of knowledge from her work and studies in international economic law across three jurisdictions: England & Wales; the United States (New York and Washington, DC); and the European Union.

Having grown up in Barbados and worked for several years in the Embassy to Washington, DC, she has also acquired a functional knowledge of Caribbean and international laws and policy.

Upon completing a common law, general commercial and medical negligence pupillage at a leading common law set (her first six was advocacy based), Maureen secured practical experience of Employment advisory and advocacy work with a Central London firm of solicitors and the Free Representation Unit. Shortly afterwards, she joined a US firm in Washington, DC as an adviser in English and European law, while assisting with multiparty litigation in the DC Superior Court, the US Federal Court of Claims and the Southern District of New York. She provided European law support in litigation involving parallel imports on behalf of a multinational fashion house and became the key European law adviser to the Antitrust (Competition) Law department when the largest client acquired subsidiaries in Holland.

Before qualifying at the Bar, Maureen worked across a wide range of commercial sectors including advertising, broadcasting, couture fashion, cosmetics, publishing, hairdressing, retail sales, oil and gas, travel, property management, accountancy, multinational treasury functions, investment banking and public relations.

During her career break, Maureen worked in the City (two investment banks) and comes to Clerksroom by way of the Advocate Panel where she handled Commercial and Chancery cases.

She can therefore apply her legal knowledge and analytical skills to almost any industry but has a special interest in SMEs operating in the Creative Sector.

She seeks to build a Commercial and Employment practice with a mixture of advisory, ADR and litigation work.
