General Information

Steve became a solicitor in 2001, a solicitor advocate in 2016 and was called to the bar in 2018. He joined Clerksroom in 2020.

Since 2005, Steve has been a specialist employment lawyer working for 11 local government authorities, including Leeds City Council and Manchester City Council. He has successfully represented clients in civil litigation and employment law. Recently, Steve was successful in a 3-day hearing for a contested £250,000 property matter.

As a solicitor advocate, solicitor and barrister, Steve has had experience working in the private and the public sector, in legal firms (including Legal 500), the educational sector with schools, academies, colleges and the union, The Royal College of Nursing. He has appeared in both the employment and the First-tier Tribunal Property Chamber, the county courts, family courts, and the Employment Appeal Tribunal in London.

Employment Law Specialist

During his career, Steve has managed a large employment department for a Legal 500 firm in Manchester. He was one of the first solicitors to successfully represent clients in the pilot schemes for Judicial Mediation.

With considerable knowledge and practical experience dealing with all aspects of employment law, Steve has drafted local government policies, provided written and oral advice, drafted contracts of employment secondment contracts, ET1s, ET3s, settlement agreements, COT 3 agreements, applications to court and tribunals, statements, skeleton arguments, summations, agendas for tribunals and courts.  

Steve has conducted seminars, one-to-one surgeries, and legal advice crunches to focus groups on a full range of employment law issues for local government executives, Heads of Departments, Human Resources, departments, schools and academies.

Steve welcomes instructions from local government, private practice solicitors and in-house lawyers. Based in Leeds, he has tribunal experience of appearing personally in Leeds, Nottingham, Sheffield, Manchester, and Liverpool Tribunals and undertaking telephone hearings in Glasgow, Belfast, and Cardiff. He is happy to travel when required. 

Personal Interests

Away from work, Steve enjoys playing and watching tennis, going to the theatre, and attending pop, jazz, and rock concerts. In the distant past, Steve hosted and co-hosted radio shows for the BBC, local commercial radio, and hospital radio.
