General Information
After being called to the bar, Stephen practised in family law in London for some years in a leading family law set. He then became the in-house legal adviser in a corporate finance firm. During this time, Stephen dealt with the legal aspects of over 100 company acquisitions and mergers. In 1997, he returned to the West Country where he now deals with a range of legal matters.
Stephen has Public Access Accreditation and can accept instructions without the need for a solicitor. Based in Taunton, he is happy to travel to any part of the UK.

Family Law
Stephen has acted in all aspects of family law, including acting for parties seeking divorce, financial provision and suitable access to children orders. He has also acted in difficult cases where the respondent husband or wife is overseas and is uncooperative or cannot be contacted, and when one parent wishes to take a child out of the jurisdiction against the wishes of the other parent.
A key interest for Stephen is matrimonial finance. His experience in business is often very useful in dealing with such disputes, particularly when one of the parties owns a company, and the value of which has to be assessed.
Stephen’s realistic and “commercial” approach can be very helpful in family disputes. He is well aware that matrimonial disputes can severely deplete the assets of most families unless great care is taken and is often able to make the process less contentious and expensive.
Business and Company Law
Stephen has acted for many owners of companies who are selling their businesses. He regularly lectures solicitors at seminars on the process of buying or selling companies. He is very experienced in the drafting of sale agreements and in securing the effectiveness of warranties and indemnities.
Partnership disputes are a particular interest, and Stephen is experienced in both the litigation and avoidance of such disputes. He also accepts instructions to advise and represent commercial clients in relation to contractual disputes and debt recovery claims.
Personal Injury and Road Traffic Accidents
Litigation involving personal injury claims is an important part of Stephen’s practice, and he has experience of a diverse range of claims in this area of law. He is always willing to discuss a case, and will usually consider accepting a case on a Conditional Fee basis.
