Profile
"I'm a business person who mediates, so I understand business and how important it is to parties to find a solution, especially where they want to continue to work together. I also train mediators, so I understand the value of the process and how to make it work."
The idea of taking someone to court to resolve a dispute fills most people with dread. The prospect of the costs involved, the time wasted and the uncertainty of knowing whether you'll win - all add up to a deep, dark, stomach-churning sense of apprehension.
But it doesn't have to be that way. I am an experienced mediator who can help parties achieve settlement - without the financial and emotional anguish associated with litigation. Using a process of building connections and building bridges honed over 27 years, I reach out to all sides in a dispute to help to achieve the best possible outcome. It's a process where calm and reasoning prevail to resolve the most entrenched disputes.
?"I have a long record of settling complex civil and commercial disputes which have otherwise been taking time and resources away from business activity."
One of the most experienced ADR professionals in the country, I am a multi award winning CMC Fellow and I have mediated more than 130 times across multiple sectors.
"Simply put, if the need arises you are my first port of call re mediation." [Solicitor Feedback]
Formal CV
Gregory Hunt is a leading independent mediator who brings a unique skillset having spent over 28 years working in alternative dispute resolution and on complex civil and commercial disputes.
He has mediated over 150 disputes and worked in over twenty jurisdictions including The UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, The Netherlands, Poland, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Croatia, Greece, Luxembourg, Portugal, Slovenia, New York, Atlanta, Connecticut, Hong Kong and Tunisia.
Gregory’s expertise lies in business and consumer services and the travel and tourism industry. He has also mediated multiple times in banking and finance, civil and commercial contracts, communications, construction, creative and media, employment and workplace, energy, insurance, legal services, leisure, transport, music, partnerships, personal injury & illness, product liability, professional negligence, property, shareholders, sports, wills and probate disputes.
Gregory started his career in ADR at the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and its subsidiary IDRS Limited, where he was responsible for incorporating The City Disputes Panel which previously oversaw hundreds of mediations annually. After 13 years he moved to The Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) where he was, during his 6 years at CEDR, its Global Group Director for Dispute Resolution Services. He also spent two years with consumer dispute resolution bodies including Ombudsmen, where he held Executive Director roles. In all of these roles Gregory was responsible for the delivery of dispute resolution services, and he has delivered, managed and directed hundreds of thousands of mediation, arbitration and adjudication cases.
Gregory is a prominent guest lecturer on mediation and arbitration and has lectured at several universities in the UK and USA, including at Exeter, Yale and St. John’s University in Queens, New York. These sessions provided practical content for students with in-depth exposure to mediation covering all stages of the process. He is also a member of the Academic ADR Research Group consisting of representatives from several leading UK universities which look to develop mediation and other ADR projects in the UK and overseas.
Gregory, himself accredited by both CEDR and the CIArb, is a Fellow of the Civil Mediation Council and he has trained over one hundred mediators globally to gain formally recognised qualifications including Civil Mediation Council Accreditation as a Mediator. Most recently, Gregory and his team delivered full mediator skills training to a group of law lecturers at the University of Lincoln.
Gregory has mediated over 150 complex matters ranging from ‘no monetary value’ to £30 million and comediated disputes with a value of over £300 million.
He is a member of mediator panels at several institutions and on lists held by many national and international law firms used for sourcing mediators.
Mediation Style
Gregory’s expertise lies in helping parties settle business disputes and he has worked across many sectors helping parties to achieve commercial settlement. His mediation style has been referred to as “relaxed but active”. Parties find him easy to get along with, but that does not mean he can’t be tough when required, especially around reality testing cases and developing offers and concessions with parties. He has had significant success mediating where strong personalities on either side have clashed, and where parties have initially been reluctant to sit around the table and negotiate.
Gregory is a mediation specialist, he teaches mediation and this keeps him current and in line with innovations in the market. If you want a mediator who knows how mediation works best for all parties involved, then Gregory is the mediator for you.
