Since joining Clerksroom in 2013 Alex has proven popular for his can-do attitude, and his ability to quickly absorb complex information and prepare simple, clear and reasoned explanations and advice. He has a "down to earth" approach and as a former solicitor he is able to build an affable rapport with clients which, combined with his strong abilities as an advocate make him a highly sought after member of chambers in the following areas:

Having been a company director for many years, Alex has a firm understanding of the many legal issues companies can encounter. He is particularly experienced in dealing with the following:

  • contract management (consulting on, drafting and amending contracts for suppliers and purchasers)
  • distribution and supply agreements (Alex has acted for IT and engineering companies in the negotiation and formation of agreements for the provision of programs and hardware to EU and non EU countries)

Alex is highly attuned to the need for accuracy in the process of contract creation. He understands the nuances involved in contract negotiation and is adept at preserving bargaining strength and tools for negotiation, while maintaining control over products and risk.

He provides in-house and one to one training on contract law to enable others to manage contract negotiation and formation processes more accurately and to ensure that company staff are in full control of contract negotiation from the outset.

Alex is also experienced in drafting and advising on:

  • standard terms and conditions
  • confidentiality agreements
  • warranties
  • franchise agreements

He is regularly instructed to advise on such matters and has done so for a broad range of clients including as a consultant in the formation of standard terms and conditions for the sale of engineering products within the EU and United States. He is also often asked to advise on / draft intellectual property rights (including trademark infringement and protection), restraint of trade clauses and confidentiality agreements.

Alex is regularly instructed to advise and as advocate in the following:

  • Employers liability - all key EL areas including work equipment, manual handling and workplace accidents
  • Public Liability -  highway tripping and nuisance claims, defective premises / landlord and tenant cases, often in matters involving serious injuries with general damages over £50,000 and regularly represents claimants in claims against local authorities and providers of public services
  • Road Traffic - both claimants and defendants including RTA/ PI fraud and all aspects of credit hire.

Alex provides in-house clinics to law firms and industry with high volumes of commercial work and he is happy to spend time considering and advising on cases brought to him for consideration and to have conferences with clients to assess the merits of their case.

He is accredited to accept instructions on a public access basis, is based in Somerset and willing to travel nationally.

Alex is married with two small sons and lives near Taunton. Between his workload and his family commitments he has little time for hobbies but when he does manage to break away he enjoys surfing and DIY.

SERVICES:

Please see “profile” tab for description of the legal services provided by this barrister.

We aim to complete and return all paperwork within 14 days (2 weeks) of receipt if no specific deadline is provided. We can work to much faster timescales if requested or we can agree a specific target date for each individual circumstance. We will always advise at the outset if counsel is unable to meet any deadline.

Each barrister has a standard hourly rate for their work. The individual hourly rate can be agreed when instructions are acknowledged if preferred. We welcome early discussion as to the suitability of a specific barrister for a specific case. The right barrister will have the relevant expertise to deal with the case but will not be too junior, or too senior depending on the complexities.

We aim to allocate all cases to the correct level of experience & seniority which we believe will prove most to be the most cost effective solution for our clients.

If, due to urgency, we allocate paperwork to a more senior member of Clerksroom, we will charge the appropriate hourly rate for the work, not for the barrister. We welcome early discussion to ensure the correct fee is applied to the case at the outset.

REDRESS:
