General Information

Stephen’s ability to gain the confidence of the parties to a dispute and to maintain a balanced, common sense approach to the process enables him to be a successful mediator. He qualified as a mediator in January 2006 since when he has undertaken a number of mediations relating to both commercial and property disputes. The experience which Stephen gained as a partner in a law firm for thirty years including twelve years in key managerial positions has equipped him with the skills required to mediate very effectively. 

Professional BackgroundAs a graduate of University College London, Stephen subsequently spent his entire career from trainee to partner with the firm now known as Cobbetts LLP involved in all aspects of commercial property. He was the firm’s first Managing Partner from 1990 to 1996 and the Senior Partner from 1999 to 2005.

Other ExperienceStephen was Chairman of pro.manchester – an organisation representing the interests of member firms in the financial and professional sector – from 2006 to 2007 and a board member until 2010.  He is Chairman of the board of trustees of Disabled Living, one of the oldest charities in Manchester, and is an independent member of the Audit Committee of Assessment and Qualifications Alliance. He is also a Consultant with Quilter & Co. Limited.
