Called to the Bar in 1985

General Information

Barry is a busy commercial contract and insurance practitioner also including undertaking work with an international element, acting for foreign companies suing in the UK including in high value building disputes and arbitrations, and large scale insurance claims. He also lectures on ‘Piracy and the implications for the insurance industry’.

Whilst he is a litigator at heart clients have commented very favourably on his skill in achieving excellent results through non-confrontational negotiation, without the need for an aggressive stance, a skill which has proved of particular value in dispute resolution.

Barry is accredited to accept instructions on a Public Access basis.

Barry retains an interest in Employment Law, which began when as a shop-steward in his pre-Bar existence, he represented fellow employees in internal disciplinary hearings. On coming to the Bar he cut his teeth in Industrial Tribunals through references from the Free Representation Unit. In the intervening years he has developed a practice in employment, more usually, but not exclusively for employers. He is happy to advise and provide talks and in house training. Due to the length of his career there are few areas of employment law in which he has not now gained experience.

Personal Injury is also a specialism and Barry acts for both Claimants and Defendants. He has extensive experience in brain damage cases, the Fatal Accidents Act, industrial disease and motorcycle accident claims. He is London based but his practice takes him nationwide.
