Intro

We formed the Clerksroom Family Finance Group to allow our specialist practitioners in this field to demonstrate to a wider range of solicitors our skills in and approach to this interesting but difficult area of practice. The group currently has 9 members, who differ in the personal qualities which they bring to this work but all of whom are genuine specialists. The group covers the full range of family finance work

• ancillary relief on divorce 
• TOLATA claims 
• MWPA claims 
• claims under Schedule 1 Children Act 1989, 
• actions under the Inheritance (Provision for Family & Dependants) Act 1975, and 
• Civil Partnership claims

We believe that we bring to our work a dedication, enthusiasm and a focussed attitude, but one to which many of the stereotypes of the traditional Bar no longer apply. We adopt a friendly, relaxed yet sensitive approach and, when appropriate, a touch of humour to break the ice and help lay clients to have confidence in counsel whom they may not yet know well. In our dealings with Instructing Solicitors we are strong believers in teamwork and the need for dialogue we do everything possible to maintain friendly and direct channels of communication and are easily accessible by email and mobile phone. We are all keen advocates of the imaginative use of technology to prepare and present our cases.

At FDR hearings and settlement meetings our members, all of whom are trained mediators, bring a range of skills to bear to make a fair negotiated outcome more likely.

Where cases cannot settle we are all experienced advocates who enjoy the forensic challenges of this work.

Elissa Da Costa and Paul Infield have written books on family law, and all our members lecture on subjects of interest. We all practice throughout the country.
